Dates and times can be used to pre-date and post-date.
Why is this helpful to know?
First, pre-dating is great for those "Type A" people who like to work ahead of schedule...definitely not me! You can create your post(s) and set them for the time and date you want them to be published.
Post-dating, or creating a date earlier than now, is great for those who only want one standing post to ever be on the home page.
This site is created this way, so that all titles occur before the time of the home page post. If not, your new post would become the home page post. So, this is a little trick to get around that. When setting up a class, this can help create a "home page", and the "modules" to complete, each really being a post.
